Have a Magical Party!

A magician adds sparkle to any occasion. More and more people are requesting magic at corporate social events, training courses, trade shows, wedding receptions – as well as, of course, at private parties celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, achievements or simply the joy of life.

If you are planning to give a party, I would certainly recommend booking a magician for it. Magic breaks any ice, brings people together and helps them to forget their worries and live for the moment.

Here are a few ideas for party themes you might enjoy and which magic will complement particularly well. You can buy cool and interesting decorations and accessories from PartyBox to help you create the right atmosphere.

Magic

If you and your friends are interested in magic, you could host a magic party. You could each learn one or two simple tricks and show them to one another. You could take this quite seriously and construct a little performance area, with curtains around it and seats for the audience, or you could pitch it more as just a bit of fun, allowing practical jokes and bar bets to pass as magic.

You can decorate your house with optical illusions, signs of the zodiac, gambling casino confetti, giant playing cards, glow-in-the-dark stars…

If you invite a professional magician to entertain you as well, he/she will almost certainly be happy to teach you a few simple tricks to expand your repertoire.

Hallowe’en / Witches and Wizards

At Hallowe’en, or at any time you feel inspired to, you could have a spooky party. You can really go to town with the decoration: spiders’ webs; bats; ghosts; pumpkins; broomsticks; eyeballs, fangs and skeletons that glow in the dark. There are great costumes to wear: old-fashioned witch, glamorous witch, traditional wizard, vampire, ghost, devil… Think horror, think Harry Potter, think Addams Family.

You can make evil-looking, evil-feeling food and disguise the drink as blood. The scope is practically endless; you can really ham it up.

In these circumstances, magic blends in perfectly. You might even wish to ask the magician to do a short spot of cabaret magic, which you all sit and watch, as well as close-up magic. Mentalism is also well suited to spooky occasions.

James Bond

If you want something sophisticated that will give your guests the opportunity to dress up glamorously, a James Bond theme could be the answer. As well as drinking martini (shaken, not stirred), you could:

  • do target-practice with rubber band guns or peashooters
  • have a James Bond quiz to test your knowledge of the books and films
  • sing along to the theme songs, karaoke-style
  • spend part of the evening solving a murder mystery (from a box)
  • have a ‘fun’ casino.

Casino / Gambling

With or without the James Bond aspect, gambling with fake money is a great way to enjoy the thrill of a flutter without any risk whatsoever. You can hire a ‘fun’ casino or you can arrange your own games. There is roulette, pontoon/blackjack, poker, craps, wheel of fortune… loads of different challenges for the punters…

… and an ideal setting for magic.
Card tricks are a well known staple of magic – and many have a gambling theme. Popular props for magicians also include coins, banknotes, poker chips, lottery tickets and dice. Then there’s always the old Three Card Monte and the Three Shell Game…

For children, you could have a Harry Potter party or a Fairy party. Both involve magic and are very popular choices.

Is it your 21st birthday, 30th birthday, 40th birthday, 50th birthday, 60th birthday? Is it your wedding anniversary? Have you got a new home or a new job? Whatever your party is celebrating, magic will enhance it!
